EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL HOLOCAUST
COMMEMORATION PROGRAM
Tova Friedman To Speak
On Her Experiences
Yom Hoshoah, the day of Holocaust Remembrance throughout the world, will
be commemorated in Linden on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 7:00PM, at the
John T. Gregorio Recreation Center, 330 Helen Street, Linden.
Sponsored by the Linden Department of Recreation and Community Services,
this year’s guest speaker is Tova Friedman who will relate her personal
experiences from the Holocaust during the hour long educational program
for the whole family.
Sometimes Tova Friedman
meets someone who does not believe the Holocaust ever happened. That’s
when she shows them her tattoo, “A27633”, a mark she was branded with as
a five-year-old girl at Aushchwitz. Four million people perished at the
German concentration camp. “That’s why it is so important for me to
talk. By telling you my story, I also tell you their stories. I just
don’t want them to be forgotten.”
Ms Friedman and her mother were liberated from Auschwitz by the Russian
Army in 1945, and immigrated to the United States in 1949 after
reuniting with her father at a European refugee camp.
Tova Friedman currently is the Director of Jewish Family Services in
Somerset County. Her experiences are published in the book,
“Kinderlager: An Oral History of Young Holocaust Survivors,” written by
Milton Nieuwsma.
The annual Holocaust
Commemoration program’s co-chairpersons are Alan and Fran Krebs. Both
are recognized authorities on the Holocaust and have coordinated the
Linden commemorative since its inception.
The Linden Recreation Department invites all to hear Tova Friedman’s
compelling story and to join with them on this important day of
remembrance. Further questions, please call 908-474-8627.
