The
Linden Police Department took part in the year-end “Drive Sober or Get
Pulled Over” drunk driving crackdown, and arrested 15 drivers for
driving while intoxicated. The Linden Police took part in the nationwide
crackdown which began on December 5th and ran until January 2, 2012.
“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” is a nationwide campaign operated by
the Division of Highway Traffic Safety. The campaign focuses on
increased police patrols during the busiest travel and holiday seasons.
During the almost month long crackdown, the Linden Police Department
increased roving patrols to focus on impaired driving. In addition to
the 15 arrests for driving while intoxicated, the Linden Police also
made 11 felony arrests, 11 drug arrests, and issued over 450 motor
vehicle summonses.
In 2011, members of the Linden Police Department arrested 114 motorists
for driving while intoxicated. “I’m very proud of our officers,” stated
Linden Traffic Bureau Michael Babulski. “Hundreds of people lose their
lives and get injured in alcohol related crashes every year, and
hopefully the dedicated efforts of the officers of our department saved
a few lives and stopped a few crashes this holiday season.”
