On
July 27, 2010 at 12:51 AM officers Nicole Melchionna and Donald Barwick
were on patrol on the 400 block of Amherst Rd. when they observed two
males on bicycles and one male leaning into a 2007 Honda. The officers,
aware that this area has had a rash of overnight car burglaries,
approached the males, but they fled on their bicycles. One male dropped
his bicycle and fled into backyards but was apprehended after a brief
foot chase. He was identified as Lamair Leary, age 19, of Roselle. He
was subsequently charged with burglary of a vehicle, theft, and
resisting arrest. His bail was set at $27,500.00 and he was sent to the
County Jail with a court date set for August 2nd. The other
two males, Mychal Cox, age 18, and Kyle Cox, age 22, both of Roselle,
were charged with obstruction of a police investigation. They were each
held on $1,500.00 bail and were also sent to the county jail. The owner
of the Honda claims his GPS unit was taken out of the vehicle, but it
was recovered nearby.
