On
July 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM officers were sent to Target, 621 W. Edgar Rd.
on a report of a shoplifter in custody. Officers were told by loss
prevention that they observed a male, later identified as Eric Roberts,
age 49, of Paterson, NJ, place two flat screen televisions, a Stanley
tool box, and two pair of pliers, total value $820.00, into a shopping
cart and walk out of the store without paying for the merchandise. He
was placed under arrest and the items were seized from his vehicle in
the parking lot. Also found in the vehicle was a Dell laptop computer
which was reported stolen and a Newport box with a two-inch cut straw
commonly used to smoke CDS. He was charged with shoplifting, possession
of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an Irvington
contempt warrant, total bail $35,200. He was transferred to the Union
County Jail with a court date set for August 2nd. Loss
prevention personnel told officers that Mr. Roberts is suspected of
stealing two Vizio flat screen televisions, total value $720.00, on July
25th at their store and may be a suspect in thefts from other
Target stores. Detectives are reviewing video surveillance footage as
part of a continuing investigation and additional charges are pending.
