On
July 13, 2010 at 1:22 PM officers responded to the HSB Convenience
store, 701 E. Elizabeth Ave. on a report of a robbery. The victim/owner,
male, age 44, of Iselin, told police that two males, dark-skinned, ages
17-19 years old, entered the store wearing black T-shirts, black caps,
and black bandannas covering their faces. Each suspect was also
brandishing a knife. They then forced their way behind the counter and
took approx. $600.00 from the cash register. The suspects also took
several cartons of Newport cigarettes and some loose cigars before
fleeing the store on foot. The store owner was not injured. A witness
observed them fleeing the store and running behind a house on the 700
block of Essex Ave. before entering a vehicle and leaving the area.
Detectives located one of the knives, a black ball cap, and some loose
change behind the house, and, at a nearby intersection, a black bandanna
and an empty cigar box was found. The items were seized and will be
processed for evidence. Detectives will also be reviewing video
surveillance cameras as part of the investigation. Anyone who may have
witnessed this crime is asked to contact Det. John Johnston at
