On June 23, 2010 at
2:14 PM officers were sent to BJ’s Wholesale Club, 1001 E. Edgar Rd. on
a report of a fraud attempt. Store employees told officers that two
males attempted to purchase a 60" television using fake documents and a
fraudulent credit card. They left the store in a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder.
The vehicle was spotted and stopped by Officer Peter Kozak on the 1200
block of Clinton St. An employee from BJ’s was brought to the scene and
identified the two males as the ones who attempted the fraudulent
purchase. The males were placed under arrest. Found in the vehicle was a
Texas license plate which was reported stolen. Arrested were: Braulio
Canals, male, age 31, of Union City, and Eddy Pimentel-Vila, male, age
38, also of Union City. Both were charged with credit card theft,
attempted theft by deception, and receiving stolen property. Canals’
bail was set at $5,000 and Pimentel-Vila’s bail set at $2,500. The
suspects were released upon posting bail pending a court date set for
June 30th at Union County Central Intake. There was
additional merchandise found in the vehicle and the investigation is
continuing by the Detective Bureau.
