officers Daniel Tristao and Vincenzo Wegrzynek were on patrol on the
1000 block of Lincoln St. when they observed a 1997 Honda Accord with
dark-tinted windows, a motor vehicle equipment violation. They stopped
the vehicle and upon speaking to the driver, Sakinah Howard, female, age
20, of Linden, the officers smelled raw marijuana coming from the
interior of the vehicle. Ms. Howard was discovered to have a suspended
driver license and a contempt warrant from Metuchen and was placed under
arrest. While speaking to Ms. Howard, the officers noticed the butt of a
handgun sticking out from under the driver seat. The other two
passengers, Marquis Tucker, male, age 22, of Linden, and Christopher
Cepeda, male, age 18, of Elizabeth were then removed from the vehicle.
The officers recovered a High Point 9 mm handgun loaded with seven
rounds. A further search under the driver seat discovered a second
handgun, a Lorcin .380 caliber handgun loaded with hollow-point
ammunition. Also seized from the vehicle was a Motrin bottle containing
codeine tablets. The passengers were then placed under arrest as well.
Sakinah Howard was charged with possession of a handgun (2 counts),
possession of hollow-point ammo, suspended license, possession of a
prescription legend drug, possession of CDS in a vehicle, improper
safety glass tinting, and the Metuchen warrant , total bail $35,000.00.
Marquis Tucker was charged with possession of a handgun (2 counts),
possession of hollow-point ammo, and possession of a prescription legend
drug, bail $70,000.00 . Mr. Cepeda was also found to be in possession of
a zip-lock bag containing 21 small baggies of suspected marijuana. He
was charged with possession of marijuana, distribution within 1000’ feet
of Public School # 5 and 500 ‘ of Hattie Johnson Park, possession of a
handgun (2 counts), possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of
a prescription legend drug, bail $142,500.00. All three were sent to
the Union County Jail with a court date set for June 7, 2010.
