PM Off. Javier Perez was on patrol on the 500 block of Roselle St., when
he observed a 1988 red Cadillac travelling at a high rate of speed north
on Roselle St. The officer pulled behind the Cadillac and paced the car
travelling at 42 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. He was also able to observe that
the three occupants were not wearing seatbelts. He pulled the car over
and was speaking to the driver when he smelled a strong odor of
marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. He also observed two
glass vials and a jar, all containing a yellowish-liquid, inside the
vehicle. The liquid was seized, and with the assistance of other
officers, a field test was done on the liquid and it tested positive for
phencyclidine, or PCP. The driver, Kuhjuan Shamar Baisden, male, age
21, of Roselle, was arrested and charged with possession w/ intent to
distribute PCP over 10 grams, a 1st degree crime, possession
of CDS, 3rd degree, and possession with intent to distribute
within 1000’ of a school zone, poss. of drug paraphernalia, and poss. of
CDS in a vehicle, speeding, and failure to wear a seatbelt. The
front-seat passenger, Wally Zamor, male, age 25, of Roselle, was found
to be concealing a plastic baggie with marijuana in his pant leg. He was
charged with possession w/intent to distribute PCP over 10 grams,
possession of CDS, possession w/ intent to distribute within 1000’ of a
school zone, poss. of marijuana, poss. of drug paraphernalia, failure to
wear a seat belt, and three contempt of court warrants from Roselle.
Both adults were held on $75,000.00 cash only bail on the Linden
charges with a court date set for May 26, 2010 at 9AM and transferred to
the county jail. The rear seat passenger, a 16 year old female from
Rahway, was released to her mother pending the filing of juvenile
complaints.
