On
May 5, 2010 at 10:19 PM officers responded to the Shop-Rite, 637 W.
Edgar Rd. on a report of a shoplifter in custody. A loss prevention
employee reported that he observed Carlos Manuel Helly, male, age 31, of
Elizabeth, via a video surveillance camera, place two pair of socks,
Krazy Glue, a package of sausage, and three packs of candy into his
sweatshirt pocket. He then paid for other items which he had, but
attempted to leave the store without paying for the items in his
sweatshirt. He was stopped and detained at the exit door. The items
taken were valued at $20.68. Mr. Helly could not provide any form of
identification, but gave his real name and date of birth to officers,
who ran him NCIC for any wants or warrants. A check revealed that he was
wanted on a warrant issued by the Fort Bend County, Texas, Sheriff’s
Department for failure to appear on a felony marijuana possession
charge. He was placed under arrest on the warrant and sent to the Union
County Jail pending extradition to Texas. Shop-Rite loss prevention
decided not to sign a complaint for the shoplifting.
