RE: Shoplifting/Robbery

On April 3, 2010 at 10:40 AM officers responded to the Sears Essentials store, 1701 W. Edgar Rd. on a report of a shoplifting. Officers spoke to the victim, loss prevention, male, age 57, who stated that he observed a man place 8 cans of baby formula in a shopping cart, place his sweatshirt over the merchandise, and then push the cart out of store without paying for the items. He confronted the male as he was entering a 2008 Mazda 626, silver, and a struggle ensued. The suspect entered the vehicle, and then, with the driver-door open, put the vehicle into reverse, and the door knocked the victim to the ground, nearly running him over. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s wearing a white T-shirt and bluejeans, was accompanied by a female passenger. The vehicle, NJ plate ZKA79H, was reported stolen from Union Township. The victim recovered four of the cans of baby formula. He did not require medical attention.
