During the past three months we have had three imposter burglaries where
a suspect, described as a black male, clean-shaven, bald head, age 30’s,
medium to muscular build, wearing a police-type badge on a chain around
his neck has approached residences in the northeast section of the city,
specifically near N. Park Ave. and has forced his way into the homes,
after ringing the doorbell, and confronting residents. On January 5th,
he struck on the 600 block of Adams St., on February 1st, he
struck on the 1900 block of Caroline Ave., and on March 17th,
he struck on the 400 block of Garfield St. Investigating detectives
believe that at least two of the crimes are connected, and possibly all
three. The suspect is usually wearing a black or dark-colored T-shirt
and dark pants to give the appearance that he is a law enforcement
officer.
Detectives are following up several leads and we are now appealing to
the public to be on the lookout for this individual in the event he
strikes again. A suspect vehicle which may be involved is a smaller
green car with one or more suspects, and may have out-of-state plates.
Since the crimes are occurring in the morning or afternoon hours during
daylight, we are asking the residents in this area to be extra vigilant
in protecting their neighborhoods and reporting anything suspicious to
the police department at once. The police department has increased both
marked and unmarked patrols in this area as well. If anyone has any
information on these crimes, they can contact the Linden Police
Detective Bureau at 908-474-8537 or by email:
