On
January 5, 2010 at 12:43 AM officers Scott Jones and Michael Rizzo were
on patrol when they observed a silver Honda fail to stop at a red light
at McCandless St. and E. Curtis St. The officers attempted to pull the
vehicle over, lights and siren activated, but it took off at a high rate
of speed and turned its lights off. A check of the license plate through
the police vehicle’s mobile computer revealed the car was stolen out of
Woodbridge. The Honda continued to elude authorities until the driver
lost control on E. St. George Ave. at N. Park Ave. and struck a
Pedestrian Crosswalk signal post. The driver then attempted to put the
car in reverse, with heavy front-end damage, and flee, but the officers,
with weapons drawn, were able to apprehend the driver and place him
under arrest. He was identified as a Christopher F. Adams, age 26, of
Roselle. He was charged with possession of stolen property, eluding
police, and possession of burglary tools (screwdriver). He was also
issued nine motor vehicle summonses. Mr. Adams was being held on
$43,000.00 cash bail which included a $500.00 contempt warrant from
Roselle court. His court date is set for January 13, 2010 at Union
County Central Intake. He is currently being held at the municipal jail
pending transfer to Union County Jail.
