|
Married thirty-five years, Linden 5th Ward Councilman Gene Davis, his wife Debbie and their Cocker Spaniel, Buddy, reside at 2138 Alberta Avenue. They have been residents of Linden’s Fifth Ward for over 20 years and are the proud parents of Jacqueline, who is married to Robert Miller and lives in Pennsylvania.
A 1969 graduate of Linden High School, Councilman Davis answered the call of his Country and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970, serving as a Radioman aboard the Guided Missile Destroyer, U.S.S. Biddle, off the coast of Vietnam at the height of the War. He served two years on active duty followed by six years as an active reservist.
Returning to school, Councilman Davis attended Union County Tech, Union College and Rutgers University and received a degree in Computer Science. The Councilman is currently pursuing a degree in Public Administration at Kean University.
Davis, the businessman, was a Computer Programming Analyst for the Pitney Bowes Company, the owner/operator of a diner on South Wood Avenue for twenty years and is currently employed by the County of Union.
In November 2000, the residents of the Fifth Ward elected Councilman Gene Davis to his current position. In November 2003 and 2007, the residents of the Ward re-elected Gene Davis as their Councilman. Prior to serving as Councilman, Davis was an elected member of the Board of Education and an appointed member of the Linden Zoning Board.
A member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 779 and a reverent supporter of POW/MIA issues, Councilman Davis created the 24-hour vigil, whereby he spent one full day in a bamboo cage. This nationally recognized program was run annually from 1998 to 2006 by Chapter 779 and drew attention to the plight of our Vietnam War POW’s and MIA’s.
Councilman Davis is also a member of the Linden Knights of Columbus, the Linden Elks, the Linden City Democratic Club, the Linden Fifth Ward Democratic Club and the Union County 150th Year Anniversary Celebration Committee.
