04.18.2018 - Defendant Charged with Murder Following Fatal Shooting in Linden
A local man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Roselle resident outside a Linden convenience store Tuesday night, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan and Linden Police Chief David Hart jointly announced Wednesday.
Darwin Cadet, 18, of Roselle is also charged with two related weapons offenses for his alleged role in the death of 27-year-old Brian Pierre.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Linden and Roselle police department patrol units were called to the 1800 block of East St. Georges Avenue (Route 27) on a report of shots being fired, according to the preliminary investigation. In the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at that location, they found Pierre suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and he died while being transported to a local hospital.
04.19.2018 - New York Men Convicted in Cocaine Case
A Union County jury has returned convictions against the two New York City-area men who crashed their SUV in a local park a little more than two years ago, after which significant quantities of illegal drugs were recovered from them, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Thursday.
Angel Ernesto Cesar, 27, of Yonkers, N.Y. and Ariel Jazmin, 29, of the Washington Heights section of Manhattan both were convicted of first-degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and two related third-degree drug offenses following a multi-week trial before state Superior Court Judge Daniel R. Lindemann and several hours of jury deliberations spread over two days. Cesar was additionally convicted of a count of second-degree eluding police, while Jazmin was also convicted on a charge of fourth-degree resisting arrest.
