08.25.2017 - Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash that Killed Woman
A Colonia man was arrested last night following a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 62-year-old Vauxhall woman yesterday.
Donna Babbs was walking north across E. St. George Ave just before 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24th, 2017 when she was struck by a 2001 Nissan Altima vehicle traveling east on E. St. George Ave. The driver of the vehicle fled, and Babbs was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Linden Police Investigators and Detectives quickly identified Michael Nicholson, 51, as the driver of the vehicle. Nicholson was arrested at his residence in Colonia without incident, just hours after the crash.
08.24.2017 - Woman killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on E. St. George Ave.
A woman has died following a hit-and-run crash early this afternoon.
On Thursday, August 24th, 2017 at approximately 12:55 p.m. Officers responded to the intersection of E. St. George Ave and Washington Ave on reports of an auto-pedestrian motor vehicle crash. Investigators believe that the woman was walking north across E. St. George Ave (from the Linden side to the Roselle side) when she was struck by a vehicle traveling east (toward Elizabeth) on E. St. George Ave. The vehicle then fled the scene, headed east on E. St. George Ave toward Elizabeth. The woman, whose name is not being released, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
08.16.2017 - Linden Police Department to Participate in Cops in Crosswalks Campaign
On Friday, August 18, 2017, the Linden Police Department will partner with AAA Northeast to conduct Cops in Crosswalks. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. members of the Linden Police Department and AAA Northeast work to increase awareness for pedestrian safety and attempt to alter driver behavior on the streets of Linden.
With the amount of pedestrian involved motor vehicle crashes across the country on the rise, the state of New Jersey is not any different. In an attempt to address the issue, AAA Northeast has worked with multiple police departments on their own streets. The program is offered by AAA, and funded by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
08.15.2017 - Linden Police Department Joins National Campaign to Crackdown on Impaired Driving
Officers from the Linden Police Department are gearing up for the state’s largest annual drunk driving crackdown. The 2017 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Statewide Labor Day Crackdown begins August 18 and concludes on September 4. During the campaign, Officers will increase roving patrols targeting motorists who may be driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
08.09.2017 - Woman Arrested After Breaking into Unlocked Cars
An Elizabeth woman was arrested and charged with burglary to several cars.
Summer Ahmed, 22, was arrested on August 3, 2017 at approximately 1:25 a.m. Linden Police units responded to the 1800 block of Dill Ave on reports that a woman riding a bicycle was checking car door handles to see if they were locked. The Officers located Ahmed and arrested her as she exited one of the cars. At the time of her arrest, Ahmed was found to be in possession of a bottle of Oxycodone. Through their investigation the Officers determined that the medication was stolen from another vehicle that was parked in a nearby driveway.
08.07.2017 - Linden Police Partner with Wal-Mart to Donate Bicycle to Boy Injured in Crash
May 15th was a Monday not unlike any other. The school year was starting to wind down and the weather was nice. Like most 10-year-old boys, Jeremiah Arellano didn’t want to spend it cooped up inside. Jeremiah had a lot of homework that night, but he came home from school and went right to work. "Normally his curfew is 7 O'clock." said his mother, Daisy. "It took him a little longer, but I was so proud of how hard he worked I let him stay out a little while longer."
