02.22.2017 - Dunkin Donuts Armed Robbery
On Sunday, January 22, 2017 at approximately 6:50 p.m. Linden Police Officers responded to the Dunkin Donuts, 126 E. Edgar Rd on a reported armed robbery. The two suspects are believed to have approached the store on foot from Woodlawn Ave. They entered the store together and demanded money from the clerk while suspect #1 pulled out a handgun. Then the men ordered the clerk into a storage room before fleeing the scene. No one was injured during the incident.
Suspect #1 is described as a black male between 5'07"-5'09" wearing a black wool cap, black jacket, light blue jeans and white sneakers. This suspect was armed with a black handgun. Suspect #2 is described as a black male with a short beard, wearing glasses and all black clothing.
02.21.2017 - Suspicious Package Reported
On Tuesday, February 21st at approximately 6:00 p.m. the Linden Police Department responded to the1100 block of W St George Ave on a reported suspicious device. Officers located the device and immediately began to clear the area in accordance with standard operating procedures. W. St. George Ave was closed between N. Stiles St & Ross St, and nearly 200 residents from two apartment buildings were evacuated. Police, fire, and OEM agencies from the local, county, state, and federal level responded to the scene, including the Union County Bomb Squad,who disrupted the device at approximately 8:30 p.m. As is standard practice for incidents of this nature, the FBI was notified and responded. At approximately 9:45 p.m. the scene was declared safe and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
02.20.2017 - Weapons Possession Arrest
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 19th, 2017 Officers responded to the 400 block of W. Edgar Rd (U.S. Route 1) on a report of shots fired. Responding Officers located 22 year-old Newark resident Mario Buchanan, who was bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. An initial investigation conducted by Linden Police Detectives concluded that the injury was self-inflicted. A stolen H&R .22cal revolver and a quantity of marijuana was recovered. Buchanan was transported to Newark University Hospital and later released.
