12.14.2016 - E. Edgar Rd. Crash & Diesel Spill
At approximately 12:15 a.m. on December 14, 2015 Linden Police and Fire units responded to reports of motor vehicle collision on the 1100 block of East Edgar Rd (US Route 1). Initial reports indicate that a 2016 Kenworth tri-axle tanker truck was traveling in the southbound lanes when the driver lost control of the truck and stuck the center median. The truck overturned as a result of the crash and spilled as much as 1900 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash. A 27 year old man, who was a passenger in the truck, was treated on scene and transported to Trinitas Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Police, Fire, and OEM personnel are on scene, along with Union County Hazmat crews and officials from NJ Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Route 1 remains closed northbound at S. Wood Ave until further notice. Westbound traffic on I-278 was initially effected but has since been reopened.
